Dear ASC Faculty,
I hope all of you are having a great summer. As we strive to support construction education and faculty, the ASC Board of Directors is working through a series of shifts in the ASC Proceedings.
The current on-line platform being used for the proceedings paper submission and review is dated and does not allow for papers published in the ASC Proceedings to be indexed. At the ASC Midyear meetings last September, the Board voted to research platform alternatives. The task force effort was led by ASC 2nd Vice President and Chair of the Publications Committee, Blake Wentz. At the ASC International Conference last April in Denver, the task force made recommendations to the Publications Committee. Followed by extensive discussions in the Publications Committee meeting, recommendations were submitted to the ASC Board. At the Post-Conference Board of Directors meeting, the Board approved transition to the use of EasyChair for the ASC Proceedings submission and review process.
This transition to EasyChair will occur this fall with the submission of ASC Proceedings in October. Look for e-mails in the days and weeks ahead that provide specific directions for how to use the new EasyChair platform. Be aware that papers will be due on October 31, 2019, for the upcoming conference in April 2020.
For the past 16 years Tulio Sulbaran has done an outstanding job serving as Proceedings Editor. He has been a tireless champion of ASC and the Proceedings, and we are grateful for his dedication and continued support. Tulio will step down from his position as Proceedings Editor after a transition to a new editor is completed this year. The ASC Publications Committee has recommended that Tom Leathem, Auburn University, be appointed Proceedings Editor. This has been approved by the Board, and Tom will serve as the Proceedings Editor for the Proceedings of the 56th Annual Associated Schools of Construction International Conference being hosted in Liverpool, England by Liverpool John Moores University April 15–18, 2020.
At the ASC midyear meetings this coming September, Tom Leathem will be seeking Board approval for two Proceedings Associate Editors. In addition, the editorial work done by Suchismita (Suchi) Bhattacharjee, University of Oklahoma, for the Conference poster submission and review has been moved from the Research Committee to the Publication Committee with Suchi continuing to serve as editor for the poster abstract submission and review process. We anticipate this process will also be accomplished using the EasyChair platform. Mohammed Mehany will continue his involvement on the Research Committee serving as Chair. Watch for more information about all of the aforementioned changes and improvements.
At the 56th Annual Associated Schools of Construction International Conference ASC will be honoring Dr. Tulio Sulbaran for his service to ASC and the Proceedings. We look forward to celebrating his work with the ASC Proceedings over the past 16 years, and we encourage you to join us in Liverpool for the event.
Have a great Fall semester and I look forward to seeing you at one of the ASC Student Competitions or the Annual Conference. Thank you for all you do for construction education.
